Wyten started production of the now popular whitening gel in 2005, but the seed was sowed in 2001. At the time, teeth whitening was very new in the UK. Dr Wyman Chan, a dentist and an entrepreneur, saw the potential and started his research on the subject. Soon after, he created a business model based on teeth whitening – and smilestudio was born. He bought Discus Dental Products from America into UK and supplied them to like-minded dentists under the auspices of smilestudio. He tested every system in the market, and was surprised to find that very little research had been done to develop or support the claims of these products.
